Eliyahu & The Qadim Ensemble announces new a new Monteray, California concert on Sunday March 1st. Led by neyzen and peacemaker Eliyahu Sills, the innovative cross-cultural group of Middle Eastern musicians from Arabic, Armenian, Indian, Iranian, Jewish and Moroccan traditions promotes peace by celebrating the common musical heritage of the embattled region’s ancient spiritual cultures.
The performance will be the ensemble’s first Monteray concerts following the return of various members from their summer musical sojourns to study in Morocco, Egypt and Turkey. The show will feature Rachel Valfer on vocals, Middle Eastern lute (oud) and persian stick fiddle (kemanche), Faisal Zedan on Arabic percussion (darbukkah, riqq, & frame drum) and vocals, John Villa on Indian tablas and frame drums, and Eliyahu Sills on the Middle Eastern reed flute (ney), Indian bamboo flute (bansuri), Turkish saz, and vocals.Eliyahu & The Qadim Ensemble recently completed their second CD, Eastern Wind, produced by world-renowned composer Jef Stott. Inspired by Stott’s mastery of mixing traditional Middle Eastern instruments with global music grooves, the new CD will feature a fuller, more modern sound than the group’s debut release Songs of Qadim, currently available through iTunes and CDBaby.
