Michael Snodgrass was raised in the San Francisco Bay Area. With only one high school class in art Michael started painting street scenes and cityscapes in a studio for a painting wholesaler. During this period, he honed his drawing skills and experimented with oil paints. His time off was spent in museums and art galleries, where he became fasinated with the work of the Bay Area Expressionist painters. At the urging of his parents, he gave up the artist life and joined the family construction business. 30 years later a move to Santa Fe, New Mexico sparked his interest in art agian, this time as a sculpture. After moving back to California and settling in Monterey he began painting seriously.Michael has tried many styles from California impressionism to realism.Currently he uses abstraction and elements of primitivism. His art is in private collection from New York, Aspen, Santa Fe and Carmel.
Christine Colon Norlander is a Los Angeles native and has lived on the Monterey Pennisula for the last 12 years. As a former make-up artist she worked for NBC, PBS, MTV, theaters, ballet and a variety of magazines. She currently works as an esthetition and has worked on nearly a thousand faces. “Painting on a face as well as a canvas is pretty much the same, as they both come alive.” – Christine Nolander.Working mostly with oils, Christine loves to create narrative works out of a buttery, emotionally hot and cool palettes. Many of the women she paints are reflections of herself. She has entitled this show “I want…” in order to reflect her experiences of personal change and to represent the hardships she had to overcome in 2008.
